'Black Cockatoo'

 Art Statement

The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is native to the south-east of Australia. They are large, magnificent birds with a heavy fluid motion in flight as well as a distinct wailing call that carries long distances. They nest in tall old-growth trees and as such their numbers are declining due to loss of habitat and climate change. I have chose to portray this beautiful creature in an eerie post-apocolyptic/bushfire environment in order to draw attention to the fragility of their future. Through a smoky haze, the figure of the bird appears like a mystical presence and time stands still.
